Sound Engineer at Smoke & Mirrors London
Hi Gurdeep, how did you get into audio?
My love for music has always been there, working in the creative industries wasn’t a career path I was aware of until a school teacher highlighted it to me and told me to focus on it if I really wanted it.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
Having a client appreciate the effort put into their work can’t be beaten- that and meeting a variety of different people from so many different walks of life.
Which recent project did you love being a part of and why?
Working with Andrew Telling recently on his Solskinøens Penyllan Brewery short film. Andrew’s cinematography and score are always amazing; he also gives me a lot of creative freedom to experiment with.
What advice would you give to someone embarking on a career in audio?
In this day and age, anything you want to learn is a click away; you just have to put the time in, you have to be honest with yourself and be hungry for it. I still have lots to learn!
Lastly, what’s your favourite anecdote from your studio?
“Now THAT’S a cuppa tea!” I’m pretty sure I’ve had a client comment on my tea-making skills, but I could have just made that all up… I drink a lot of tea…
